Attended a baking class on Monday with a work mate.
It was the HomeBaker course at Brasserie Breads, in Botany.
It was so much fun! Coming from work, I was feeling tired and grumpy, but honestly, I had a great time.
Learnt to make bread from scratch, without using machines (except an oven obviously).
I feel so domestic now :D
I am not usually much of a baker, but Matt who took the course was absolutely lovely
and I didn't feel lost at all.
And its so easy! Cant wait to have a dinner party soon so I can try my hand at making some dinner rolls.

Brasserie Breads

All you need: good flour, yeast, salt, water and olive oil.

Ended the night with a tasting session, and wine!

Tastings. The best garlic bread I have ever had, and some pretty yummy brioche.

My tray! Yes. I actually made these!
We made these breads, as well as two types of schiaccia con l'uva.

I can't wait to return and do another course, I have my eye on the sourdough class.
I really can't recommend it enough, I learnt so many handy tips and nifty tricks.
The only downside, is that I have been eating bread since Monday because we made so much of it!

Today is Anzac Day. We did the march in Sydney.
Had a nice time, but boy, am I tired!
Unfortunately I'm suffering from another bout of insomnia, this seems to be happening more frequently lately.
Ended up on ASOS, that place is a godsend for late night entertainment.

ANZAC. Lest we forget.

Going back to ASOS now, I need to find the perfect pair of coloured cropped pants.
Night!

POP CULTURE FEVER

Going to Comic Con has been on my bucket list for ages,
and when I found out that Supanova would be on in the Gold Coast,
I jumped at the chance to go!
Jin had to work so I attended by myself, and I absolutely loved every minute of it.
Well, maybe not every minute, it was really crowded, and the lines were fairly insane.
Not usually good with huge masses of people, but it was quite manageable this time, once i got inside.
Possibly because I avoided the ATMs, toilets and food stores lol.

Massive line to enter the Convention Centre
Caught glimpses of celebrity guests the Phelps twins (George and Harry Weaseley) and Peter Facinelli (Carlise from Twilight), but the highlight for me was definitely getting autographs from Morita and Abe san. They direct the anime of Bleach, which I have been obsessed with since forever! Yet another insanely long line to meet them, but worth it :)

Another highlight were the costumes. Wish I had dressed up myself, it looked like so much fun!

Here's my haul!

Signed Madoka Magica poster, signed Bleach character book, the Hunger Games socks and wristband, Miniature Harry Potter book cover earrings, anime stickers, Bleach push pins, Bleach charms, a cartoon iPhone charger cord and a Popin Cookin set! An adult sized Pikachu costume was calling my name, but I valiantly resisted the urge.

Supanova was great, I definitely want to go again!

Been feeling a tad crafty lately, and was in the local art store when a tube of glitter paint caught my eye.
It was called Black Opal, and for some reason, the blend of colours really stood out on the shelf.
I have been looking for a pair of glitter shoes since Miu Miu launched theirs, but I wanted something quite understated. Well, as understated as glittery footwear can be. So I decided to DIY! Ridiculously simple.
Some tape along the margins of an old pair of boots, a paint brush and your choice of paint and you are good to go.
Voila!

Black Opal glitter paint

Alexander Mcqueen, Bonds, light denim and a glitter trail

Sparkling under the street lights!
Was a little naughty at Sydney airport enroute to visiting Jin in the Gold Coast.
Sunglass Hut was having a sale, and I couldn't resist!
But foldable sunnies, how insane is that.
It'll even fit in my pocket.
Or a little clutch!
Prada- Now in bendy
Got the tortoise shell pair.
Jin agreed that they were a good buy.
She is usually somewhat disapproving of my random purchases, but with her to validate this one, I can tell these sunnies are going to be a keeper.
I wish Jin and I lived in the same state, we have such a blast together!
I will blog more about my awesome weekend on the Gold Coast next, my eyes are feeling a little heavy tonight.
Its past one in the morning and I have work at 0730.

Occasionally, I get really bored of my look and try to shake things up.
I will leave you with some gratuitous self photos of my mini-makeover to tide you over till I next blog.

Good night!

Trying out Press and Go nails. They are surprisingly hardy.

Cling wrapped at the salon.

I am now a ash brunette! The Korean colourist is good.

And just because I can, here is a photo of Miley Cyrus sans underwear.

Sweet dreams, you pervs who zoomed in.
 :p

4/18/12

Okay, so not discharging from hospital tonight.
My loss is your gain!
Blogging to pass the time, before the 8.30pm Titanic 100th anniversary special TV show.
:D
Still love the Titanic saga, even after all these years.

To convince all of you that I am, in fact, a responsible member of society
and that I do other things besides eat and shop, behold! Evidence.

I got my diploma from university.
I made it to my Dental graduation night..
I serve the country.
I operate. How much does this photo make me look professional? :p Well except for the cheesy grin lol.

I can cook. I made this chilli crab dish. Yes really!
And I treat my BFFs with lots of love!
So now that I have convinced you..
I feel no guilt in showing you a purchase of mine.
I bought these Nicholas Kirkwood shoes sometime ago from Scanlan and Theodore
but haven't had the chance to wear them out.

And I don't know what to wear it with!

Just between you and me, its rather uncomfortable too.
But so pretty.
Lee, when I am back in Singapore, lets have an occasion so I can wear these babies!

Alright, I am getting sleepy as my sleeping pills are starting to work. I will leave you with a random bit of Snape love, arguably the sexiest Harry Potter character after the whole Snape-Lily-James triangle.

Feast your eyes.

Still in hospital, still waiting to get discharged.
Irrationally I am convinced that being in hospital is bad for my health.
I KNOW there are germs everywhere
and I have had nothing to do but sit around and eat plentiful hospital food and watch Ellen Degeneres,
which can't be good for you.
I miss my cosy cabin.

Couldn't bring everything I wanted to over from Melbourne, but my cabin has really grown on me. And I have a gorgeous view, as seen below.  And nightly fireworks from the Opera House!

HMAS Choules

I look rather official! Still feel a little uncomfortable with the formal marks of respects shown between ranks (I feel like a fraud!), but I suppose that is something that will come with time. I won't really be talking much about the Navy life anymore (security risk, misinterpretation etc) but I suppose I do have to mention that any views expressed here are my own and solely my own. But you knew that anyway.

I might as well start clearing the backlog of photos.
The boy and I went to Italy for my birthday last year.
Part combined graduation trip, and part birthday fiesta.
We gorged ourselves silly on Italian food, shopped till we dropped (went to Serravalle and Mestre in Switzerland to hit up the outlets), saw Italian art, and had an absolute blast!

Prettiest shopping plaza in Milan, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele

Duomo di Milano

On the TrenItalia to Verona

Castelvecchio

Casa di Giulietta, Verona. A total dream come true for me, as I am obsessed with Romeo and Juliet!

Venice. Mindblowing.

:)

Looking at the photos makes me all happy and fluffy.
I have to run away now as i have a specialist appointment in 20 minutes.
Hopefully the results are good, and when I next update, I will be in the comfort of my little naval cabin.
:)

CIAO!

4/17/12

It's late and I have to get up early tomorrow.
But what else should you do when you are in hospital and have to keep dead silent?
Well, in my case, try to revive my old blog!

So it's been a while since I have graduated, did a stint of Navy officer training but my health took a tailspin
so I now work and live in Sydney for the time being.
Stone's throw from the infamous King's Cross!
Navy training was.. chatacter building, and strangely, I missed it when I had to leave.
Not mad enough to want to do intensive training again though!
Ah those physical trainers. Even looking at one now makes my muscles all sore and spagetti like.
Muscles I never even knew I had.

Life is great, but the boy is in Perth so we are making the long distance thing work.
Frankly, it's so much expense and effort; Perth is a 5 hour flight away, but he's so adorable I can't help myself.
Hahah. Not going to get too 'teenage dream' now, but I am happy.

I am at the stage of my career where everything is still new and fresh, so I love being a dentist.
My colleagues are very knowledgable too so my job is a breeze.
Of course, there are still days when nothing goes right, but thankfully, those are few and far between.
But now that I am no longer a student, life is hitting me like a ton of bricks!
Bills, home deposit, insurance, fees, bills, bills, BILLS
And building my nest egg! Desperately want to build my portfolio,
but unless you count my new bags, shoes and clothes, (I will show you, promise. Sydney shopping is mad fab)
I'm afraid there's not much there.
Ah self control. My Achilles heel.
So many pretty things in the world, so much need to possess it all.
Seems the older I get, the bigger and more expensive the toys I crave. But I still want the little pieces of junk too.
I am my Mother's daughter.
Can a leopard change it's spots?

Well if I am planning to retire by 45, I guess I will have to start.
Though talking about it is reminding of those fabulous leopard print Louboutins on sale at David Jones.
Dammit.

Ah the internal struggle. As an aside though, was chatting with the BFF about that feeling I get when I shop.
The store lights get really bright, my senses become hyperaware, and I get the spine tingly thrill and I HAVE IT!
So I hand over my nice shiny AMEX ( notorious for throwing higher credit limits at you to test your already tenous grasp on reality)
And boom! Gratification.

Then I go home and the guilt hits.
The ugly side of consumerism huh? That and the pride to not spend Dad's money anymore.
But this time I will succeed!!
Instead of collecting my pretties,
I will collect DOLLARS.

Affirmative!
