ngvsailing

one of the things on my day zero list was to visit the National Gallery of Victoria twice a year

went with Jason on friday
wanted to see the Re-view photography exhibit
but we also checked out the asian, european and post-modern galleries
as well as the Draping fashion exhibit.

took heaps of photos but here are a few highlights

Andy Warhol's self portrait

Houkusai's Great Wave off Kanagawa. love the 36 views of Mt Fuji, was really excited to see this wood block print as i didnt get to the last time

the portrait of a girl we secretly called 'the slut', haha, but unfortunately the title and artist is just too small to make out! remind me to check her name out properly the next time i visit. i really like this though, her gaze is so intense.

Cecil Beaton's photo of evening dresses, Rodin's the Thinker, some Wedgewood and some pieces from the photography exhibit

really like Yee i-lan's Huminodun
it had a nice story behind it, and was a lightjet photograph so it looked really different
unfortunately because of the glass casing i couldnt get a good photograph so you ll have to google it!
its beautiful though

went sailing all day sunday
it was Docklands Boat Festival so we opened the ship for people to inspect
and ran 3 voyages

was on the foredeck for all three, mostly portside
and learnt heaps, as most of the lines were there
sailing is a whole different language, but very rewarding

i m so glad i took it up, its tiring but pretty kickass!
got to furl sail on jig boom at the end
which is always special cause i get to harness up

isnt she pretty?

sage

it had been a long time since Clare Lee Bri and I were together in the same physical space, not since 2004 i believe.
someone was always out of the country

but at the end of 2009, we finally managed to all be in Singapore at the same time
all the respective jet-setting plans were arranged to leave some free time
and we did it! all four of us were together again

decided to go to dinner at Sage on Mohamed Sultan road

loveeeloveee

We had some

Cappuccino of wild mushrooms with truffle infused scrambled eggs,
asparagus and morel cream

Wagyu beef carpaccio with truffle scented mascarpone parfait,
baby Spanish cos lettuce with shaved summer truffles and Parmigiano Reggiano= YUM

Homemade squid ink fettuccini pasta tossed in a pesto emulsion with crab meat and grilled tiger prawns, Arugula leaves and shavings of
Parmigiano Reggiano

Duck leg confit on a parcel of stuffed cabbage filled with a fricassee of
field mushrooms and foie gras, potato puree and Pommery mustard jus

Sautéed duck foie gras with fig compote on apple, pecan and raisin crumble,
emulsion of vino cotto and red wine vinegar,

Roasted fillet of cod topped with prawn and cognac butter on gratin of salt cod brandade with sun dried tomatoes and russet potatoes, basil pesto emulsion and lemon confit

and my dessert was the chocolate fantasy
Glazed dark chocolate mousse filled with white chocolate ganache,
crunchy chocolate pearls and nougat chips with verjus – raspberry sorbet - DEATH BY CHOCOLATE. RASPBERRY AND CHOCOLATE IS A WINING COMBINATION

the 3 of them also had some hideous pineapple bread and butter pudding (i found it unpalatable, they loved it) which is not available on the menu, but if, like Clare, you call and ask nicely enough, they might make it for you!

when to The Coffee Connoisseur at Clarke Quay after
they are going to kill me for the photo below

but..
WORTH IT!!

bday

just downloaded the VSO image software to help me resize my photos
and spent the past 3 hours uploading them onto facebook

well it wouldnt actually have taken that long, but my wireless was problematic for a bit
(solution was simple, i moved my laptop 50 cm to the left on my desk)
voila!

problem solved, hheheh

anyway, since i now have the bandwidth to upload my photos, i decided to post about my 21st birthday celebrations

you know, especially seeing as how its my last birthday and all
from now on, i m never turning 22. i stay 21. FOR LIFE.

Clare and Lee arranged dinner at Gunthers on Purivs Road

theres a good reason why i should blog about events as they happen and not so long after-
i forget. really easily, real quick. but! i remember it was good, no big misses
and i remember being realllly full.

I had the degustation

Grilled bamboo clam, Provençale style
tomato thingy
Egg fondant, grilled seasonal mushrooms, spanish ham
Grilled lamb rack, natural jus
some souffle

http://www.gunthers.com.sg/menu.html

the highlight: cold angel hair pasta with oscietra caviar. THIS DISH IS THE BOMB.

signature dessert, the apple tart or 'Fine apple tart “à la dragées”, Havana rum & raisin ice-cream'

yes, here i am fervently wishing over some kickass birthday tiramisu

not sure why, but this photo isnt rotating!!!

i miss sg already, looking at these pictures definitely arent helping!
i ve decided- last dish before i kick the bucket- Gunther's cold angel hair pasta. it is THAT GOOD.

Nai and i went to Johor Bahru in Malaysia on my birthday itself

doing what we love best, eating and shopping. all my favourite hawker dishes- sambal kangkong, stingray, clams, hor fun and the sweet milky iced tea. ummm.

haha, okay obviously someone was hungry and wanted me to finish taking photos

had another birthday dinner the night after, at Oriole in Pan Pacific on Somerset
chose the place after reading some good reviews on the internet

my beef cheek tagliatelle was pretty good, light on the red wine sauce and beef was tender
and the bottle of wine we got sweet and not too astringent

unfortunately the fish and chips, and the bread and butter pudding missed the mark.

haha was amused but how retarded i look ordering for everyone

went to marina bay barrage after to hang out
sea breeze was nice and cool

was super relaxing

i cant quite believe i am 21
this blog post has really helped it sink in

I AM IN MY TWENTIES!

!!!!!!!

cnyeve din

dinner at Courthouse Hotel
86 Errol St

wanted to try this place for ages since some friends recommended it about a year ago
and it was pretty good!

didnt photograph the entrees, but we had a chilled soup and kangaroo fillet
should really read the menu more carefully, i didnt realised it was cold till it arrived
:(
cold soup, unless its gazpacho, just tastes weird to me

mains- milk fed calves liver, baby cos lettuce salad, and lamb shoulder and confit

dessert- creme caramel and shortbread

definitely have to go back for more
the prices are reasonable, the dishes nice and french traditional, and the decor warm

plus its a bonus that it is so close to uni
next time i m not driving so i can check out their wine list
- 3 months till i m off my P plates!

:D

but dont worry, at least i know the people in the photographs haha

well thats it for now
happy chinese new year and happy valentines day!

project 365

so i ve started on my new project, project 365

can see it here

2/2/10

day zero

okay so i didnt end up sleeping again
stayed up all night cause i couldnt get to bed, and have to leave for uni in about half an hour.

really have to stop doing this, especially when i start working
cant fall asleep when seeing a patient right?

omg. eyes closing.

since i have a bit of spare time, i wanted to blog about about a project some friends and i have undertaken

its called the day zero project, and basically entails completing 101 self set tasks over 1001 days.

its been pretty awesome because i love making lists, and crossing things off, and this has given me a kickstart towards completing some things i ve always wanted to do.

i started on 24th jan 2010, and should finish on 21st sept 2012.

my list is here http://dayzeroproject.com/user/the-p-life

cant wait till its all crossed off :)

please tell me if you have any more ideas!

tennis and hiking

allow me to share my latest DIY project!

studs+ scissors to cut the leather+ pliers to bend the studs =
zheng-ed shoes!
hahah. me likey.

today was the first day back of uni, and one thing about the dental school
they dont quite believe in easing you back into university
its more like, slam bam you're up GO GO GO!

think everyone is feeling a bit down in the doldrums
and though i m loathe to admit it,
never felt like this before, the dread and niggling conviction that
'uh oh. if i dont work hard this year i WILL FAIL'
usually academics take a backseat to my social life
but this year, looks like i cant afford to
we even have emergency rosters for the weekend
weekend!
last time i had any sort of non social event on the weekend was probably math tuition in secondary 2.

looked at my diary, and i had such grand plans for the year
starting kendo, pottery, learning some conversational japanese
think i ll have to scrap it
gonna continue with sailing and journalism for style melbourne
and thats about it i guess

pity. really wanted a new pot

but on the bright side
watched the Australian Open finals with Bri and Nic last night, Federer vs. Murray
OMGGGGGGGGGGGG
I LOVE FEDERER
AND HE WON!
6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (13-11)

like Bri said, he really is a dream to watch play.

some blurry photos from my little point and shoot, i took more on my DSLR but will upload them at a later date!

(i know, i know, i keep promising photos, but they WILL come. eventually!)

trophy face.

He is very cute isnt he :)

awards ceremony

haha. i think Federer has become the Nick Carter of our adult hood. Lee, you have to feel his charm. its undeniable.

Just gave myself a pedicure yesterday and noticed one of my toes has turned BLACK
I was so shocked i tell you, i thought i was hallucinating
was in primary school when a girl stubbed her toe. her toe turned black too, and then her toenail fell off.
IT JUST FELL OFF.
imagine my horror at being told this story
ahhh crud.

but i guess the toes and assorted blisters are worth it
went on a 3 day hike to Wilson's Promontory on 19th Jan
did the Eastern Prom circuit (36 km in total)
and it was BEAUTIFUL
lt waterloo is one of the most pristine and isolated beaches i have ever seen

was kinda embarrassing, because i ve become unfit since high school and the 3 guys i went with were v fit (dont say you are not because i ve been with 5 fit girls and it was vv different!)
Wanted to just lay down and die going uphill and let my 20 kilo pack become my new grave marker
and have a wombat just attack me and kill me and get this whole thing over and done with going downhill (shoes were killing me - explains black toe)

but i know it sounds crazy, it was so worth it!

first day was rainy and chilly (warmed up nicely after) and the tranjea wouldnt heat up so we had lukewarm soup for dinner. boys left food outside the tent so we were plagued by scratchy yowling demonic possums (hilarious in retrospect). SOMEONE brought a bag full of cosmetics but didnt end up using toner (but i was secretly grateful cause i NEEDED those facial wipes). Someone else decided instead of 2 bottles of fresh water, he would bring one bottle of water, and one of vodka. Someone else found said demonic possum cute and wanted to touch it. Rabies much?

hahha. i LOVED IT.

said tranjea
