Girls, buckle up! If this Unlucky fashion show at Melbourne’s Seven nightclub is anything to go by, summer is going to be one hell of a menswear ride. Featuring boutique labels Sushi Radio, Kiss Chacey and Salvation, the show was a study of cool geekiness, tapping into the best of vintage prints with a distinct modern twist. Some of my favorite current trends showcased by the labels included summery palm tree prints, three quarter length pants, high socks, and the more grown-up palate to last season’s neons, pastel shades! And those nerd glasses! You know, the ones with the kind-of-Wayfarer look but with larger frames. Very Clark Kent pre-Superman. They make me want to hang out in the nearest 24 hour library. Spectacles have now been proclaimed sexy. =)
One of the labels featured that night was Kiss Chacey, a fresh fashion label from Melbourne, about to enter their 2nd summer. Their street fashion was savvy, so keep your eyes pealed for KC in the future; I predict guys will really dig this aesthetic.
KC cannot be found in stores at the moment. So unfortunately you will have to keep and eye out for release times, catwalk parades and specials sales. To find out more, visit www.kisschacey.com.au/.
Another label presented was Sushi Radio, a boutique label straight out of Melbourne. They are a limited release label, supplying only 10 boutique stores around Australia. Go check out their site at sushiradio.com.au for stockists and other information. With Sushi Radio, shorts and 3 quarter length pants were definitely the order of the day, paired with the ubiquitous black converses which are back in a big big way.
My favourite look of the night was by Sushi Radio. View it at www.2threads.com/image.php?46651. Its level of funky kitcshness is so high it is off the scales! Knee-length roll up denim shorts, white frame spectacles (!!), Ashlee Simpson’s yellow cotton scarf knotted just-so around the neck, slicked back hair, and a Sushi Radio top telling you to “BE SOMEBODY!” Yes indeed.
As the name of this series of shows suggest, you were really ‘Unlucky’ not to be there. But fret not! It is still running every Thursday at 52 Albert Road, South Melbourne. Till next time!
