Didnt feel like driving far and sometimes parking in the city is so painful.
Was looking for somewhere closer to our side of town and I felt like some modern italian. So Maris it was!
The restaurant is at 15 glenferrie road, and thank god, parking was a breeze.
Had the 2000 Chateau Imperial Tokaj Aszu. Dessert wine really is my weakness, i can have it anytime of the day, with any dish, in any amount, haha.
Foie gras cannoli
Quail burger, lardo, caramelised onions & cherry tomato. Love lardo! Dont know who here has read the Sword of Truth series, but ever since that ironsmith made lardo for Kahlan in the 5th book, i ve always loved it. Beats butter flat out!
Ocean trout carpaccio, warm smokey potato, wood sorrel & horseradish. Quite yummy, the horseradish was a rather genius touch.
Pork crackling dish. Never been a huge fan of pork, but apparently this was quite good.
Vin santo pannacotta
macerated figs & apricots with almond biscuit ice cream
Three layers of Valrhona chocolate, sweet sherry ice cream, mint & sorrel.
Desserts were great, wasnt too rich and the chocolate was slightly more bitter than usual in my dessert (good thing!), which when taken with the sherry icecream produced the most extraordinary flavour. Was such a similar dish to the dessert i had at Coda that it was hard not to compare the two, but i think i liked the one at Coda more. The brandy icecream was stronger, and i think it had hazelnuts.
Coda had the better chocolate dessert, but the monkey fritters were terrible. Both desserts at Maris were really good. In conclusion, if you want that chocolate roll with sherry/brandy ice cream type dessert, try Coda, if not go to Maris!

oh btw, the first thing i thought of when i saw that chocolate cone dessert was the one you had at coda as well.
anyway, don't delete the photos you've taken yet!!!! ngo yao ta men! i'm going to tip toe to your house in the dark of the night and steal them. ha. okay honestly, i want to steal those full sized jpeg images from you before you shrink them to a shrivelled prune size. :D :D :D
